What is MVHR?

Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) is a whole house ventilation system that both supplies and extracts air throughout a property. MVHR offers a balanced low energy ventilation solution for dwellings and can re-use up to 95% of the heat that would have otherwise been lost from within the building.

MVHR systems significantly increases the air quality within the home by delivering fresh, filtered, pre-warmed air into the property, improving quality of life aswell as reducing fuel consumption.

With the ever increasing insulation and air tightness levels within both new builds and renovation projects MVHR systems are a perfect solution to maintain balanced healthy air quality, which is a must within low energy and Passivhaus properties.

How do MVHR systems work?

MVHR heat recovery systems comprise of a heat recovery unit which is connected to a series of network ducting. This ducting is connected to vents positioned throughout the property which control the airflow throughout the building. Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) works by continuously drawing damp stale air from wet rooms within the property, aswell as drawing fresh clean air from outside into the property. Heat is then recovered from the wet areas via the heat exchanger which extracts the otherwise lost heat and transfers it into the fresh, filtered supply air. During the summer months a bypass is used to help control air temperature throughout the property.

Key Benefits

Continuous removal of condensation, solvents and pollutants.

Fresh filtered air is supplied to the property aswell as pollutants removed, this makes MVHR perfect for allergy sufferers and those with conditions such as asthma.

A whole house balanced ventilation system, recovering heat that otherwise would have been lost. Professionally installed MVHR systems improves air quality as well as reduces fuel consumption.

Low noise, non-intrusive ventilation system solution.

MVHR has a direct impact on the Dwelling Emission Rate required in SAP. This helps towards reducing the carbon footprint of the property.
